Germany is ready for Rio!
Two national champions, Sophie Scheder and Andreas Toba won the German Olympic Trials that took place on Saturday in Frankfurt. Thus, they got the right to perform at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The names of the gymnasts who will compete in Rio were announced by the German Gymnastics Federation on Sunday. They are: Sophie Scheder, Tabea Alt, Kim Bui, Pauline Schäfer and Elisabeth Seitz. The team alternate will be Pauline Tratz.
"We have a very strong and balanced team," said women's team coach Ulla Koch. "Our goal is clear: We want to reach the team final and several individual finals. If we are concentrated and focused, we will accomplish this."
The men’s names were also announced. They are: Andreas Toba, Andreas Bretschneider, Lukas Dauser, Fabian Hambüchen and Marcel Nguyen. Philipp Herder is the alternate.
"With this team, we have opportunities for Olympic finals in the individual events as well as in the all-around and with the team," said men's team coach Andreas Hirsch. "I am convinced that these guys will deliver a strong performance in Rio."
